From the new day, week, month, and year views to the settings menu, everything has been redesigned to adhere to Material Design. The redesign also introduces a bit of unification, seeing how the redesigned desktop Calendar appears similar to the mobile Calendar app.

Unfortunately for regular folks, these changes are only implemented in Google's Tested Truster program for the time being. That said, we could see a general rollout as 2017 draws to a close, though that is more of an educated guess than official word from Google.
I am just glad Google will finally update Calendar on the desktop to bring it up to speed. YouTube, Chrome, Search, and Inbox all have the Material Design treatment, so it is nice to learn that Calendar will be part of the list soon enough.
