In case you've missed the hype, Pocket Edition is an ambitious reimagining of the sprawling Japanese RPG for mobile devices. It will be delivered in episodic chunks throughout the year, with future chapters carrying a premium price-tag.
The initial chapter weighs in at just over 1.2 GB, although the Play Store listing notes that you'll need 5 GB or more free storage to store the full game.
That number jumps to over 8 GB if you're playing with high-resolution graphics.
You can purchase all of the chapters in one go for a one-off fee of $19.99. Alternatively, you can buy each chapter as you go. Originally released in late 2016 for the PS4 and Xbox One (a PC release is scheduled for March), Final Fantasy XV follows Noctis and his three companions – Prompto, Ignis, and Gladiolus – on a road trip-style, open-world adventure across Eos.
As well as Final Fantasy's typical blend of crystals, kings, magic, and out-there haircuts, the latest main installment in the classic franchise also features a real-time combat system which transitions over to the Pocket Edition thanks to a retooled touchscreen control scheme.
Another major change is the art-style which switches over to a cutesy 3D aesthetic with Chibi-like character models.
If you've seen the trailers (see above) and screenshots you'll know what to expect, but if you've played the game on console already (like me), prepare yourself for a very, very strange experience as you see the same cutscenes play it with full voice-acting with adorable character avatars.
