If you live in the Great White North and happen to own an Android smartphone, you can be one of the first people in the West to play the mobile version of the hit battle royale game Player Unknown's BattleGrounds (PUBG). PUBG Mobile is now available to download in the Google Play Store in Canada. The game is being developed by Lightspeed & Quantum Studio, and published by Tencent, under the supervision of PUGB's original development team, Bluehole.

The soft launch of the game in the West was confirmed earlier this morning on the official PUBG Mobile Facebook page. As with the hit PC and Xbox One versions of the game, PUGB Mobile supports up to 100 players in a match, as they are dropped from the sky onto a simulated 8×8 km location. Each player then has to find weapons, vehicles or anything else he or she needs to kill and survive attacks from the 99 other players, with the goal to be

the only one left standing in the end.

PUBG Mobile was first announced back in December for the Chinese market, but until now there was no confirmation that it would make its way across the Pacific to North America. The Canadian soft launch may mean that it is close to a release in the U.S., but there's no launch date yet for that country. A second arcade-based PUBG game for smartphones, Army Attack, has been announced but has not yet launched.

The release of PUBG Mobile in Canada comes on the heals of another popular PC-console game in the genre, Fortnite: Battle Royale, soft launching an iOS beta version earlier this week.
