Welcome back to Comment Authority! There's been a lot of writing at Android Authority over the past week with the OnePlus 6 ramping up for launch, the redesign of Gmail finally landing for all, and lots of global political intrigue when it comes to technology. As usual, our devoted readers were right there with us, posting insightful commentary on the topics at hand. Those comments are what we like to focus on here at Comment Authority because a lot of the time they are incredibly helpful, even to us writers!

Without further ado, here are the best comments from this past week!

OnePlus belongs in the mid-range

The OnePlus 6 is one of the most hotly-anticipated devices of the year. However, some OnePlus fans are not too pleased that the price point of the smartphone will likely be the first to break the $500 mark.

One reader going by the wise moniker of Confucious Say commented on our recent article about the four-year anniversary of the OnePlus One. He is not pleased that the company is leaving the mid-range and going into flagship pricing, and joins a lot of our readers who proclaim that they simply won't buy the OnePlus 6:

Is the new Gmail just the old Inbox?

Google hasn't altered the design of Gmail in ages, so the recent redesign has made a lot of headlines. However, users of the Gmail sister app Inbox by Gmail were worried that the integration of many Inbox features into the Gmail redesign would mean the death of Inbox.

Luckily, Google assures us that Inbox is here to stay (for now), which put lots of users at ease. Here, a reader by the name of Saroj Panda talks about how similar the Gmail redesign is to Inbox and how they'll use the two apps in tandem:

Don't mess with China

With ZTE essentially banned from the United States, President Trump blocking the Broadcom-Qualcomm deal, and Huawei's woes when it comes to breaking into America, it's clear that China and the United States are in a bit of a cold war right now.

Our own Robert Triggs wrote a lengthy piece detailing how the stubborn refusal to compete on equal ground with China may backfire on the U.S. in significant ways. A reader by the name of Mike F chimed in to point out how incredibly fast China is when it comes to development:

Totally inappropriate (and hilarious) joke of the week

Earlier this week, our own Williams Pelegrin told us about the horrifying story of a man slain by police officers in a traffic stop that went horribly awry. Unbelievably, the officers went to the funeral home where the victim's body was being held to attempt to unlock his confiscated phone using the dead man's fingerprint.

While the story is sad and a gross violation of both morality and police ethics, frequent commenter bboyheat had the perfect off-color quip to make in response to the news:

Have a terrific weekend, everyone! Don't spoil Avengers: Infinity War for anyone. Seriously, spoilers make people incredibly angry.
