Remember that Google-branded Android TV dongle that passed through the FCC about a month ago? That was no anomaly, as Google announced that very dongle during its developer conference.

Called the ADT-2, the device is about the size of a Chromecast Ultra, runs Android TV, and features an HDMI plug and power port. It also includes 8GB of storage and 2GB of RAM, though Google remained mum on the rest of the internals.

Finally, the ADT-2 supports 4K video streaming, supports Google Assistant with the included Bluetooth LE remote, and runs the second Android P developer preview. That last bit is

especially helpful for developers who want to test their apps with the unfinished software before primetime.

Google said the ADT-2 would run Android P when the device ships to developers later this summer. Because it is meant to be a reference device, the ADT-2 will only be available for developers and not for regular folks.

Even so, it is impressive that a small device like the ADT-2 supports something like Android TV. It almost makes the Chromecast somewhat redundant, though Android TV dongles will likely sell for much more than a Chromecast does today.
