Samsung Galaxy J6 press render Samsung

  • Samsung unveiled two new phones, the Galaxy J6 and J8, at an event in India.
  • Samsung also announced that it will release the A6 and A6 Plus in the country.
  • The Galaxy J6, A6, and A6 Plus will go on sale on May 22, while the J8 will follow in July.

Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Galaxy J6 (above) and Galaxy J8 today in India. At the same event, the South Korean manufacturer also revealed that India will get the previously announced Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus.

The standout feature of these devices is their Infinity Displays; all four of the mid-to-low-tier devices feature an edge-to-edge screen similar to those found on Samsung's flagship devices like the Galaxy S9.

Galaxy J6 has a 5.6-inch, HD+, AMOLED display and is powered by an Exynos 7-series chipset with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. This is all kept running by a 3,000mAh battery. There is no dual-camera and Samsung has instead opted to equip the Galaxy J6 with a 13MP (f/1.9) rear camera and an 8MP (f/1.9) selfie camera.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor under the rear camera, a micro-USB port, a headphone jack, facial recognition technology, and microSD support (for cards up to 256GB). The device will come with Android Oreo out of the box and will be available to buy on May 22. It will cost 13,990 (~$205) rupees for the version with 3GB RAM and 16,490 rupees (~$242) for the 4GB version.

The Galaxy J8 is the more expensive of the two J devices, coming in at 18,990 rupees (~$278). This arrives with a 6-inch, HD+ display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset, 4GB of RAM plus 64 GB of internal storage. There's a dual rear camera system on the back, with 16MP (f/1.7) + 5MP (f/1.9) sensor, while the front camera has a 16MP (f/1.9) sensor.

It runs on Android Oreo, has a 3,500mAh battery inside, and will be available from July onwards.

Samsung

Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus

As for the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus, these were unveiled earlier this month as the latest mid-range devices in Samsung's catalog. These hit similar beats to the J6 and J8, with the A6 Plus being bigger, housing a larger battery, and including dual cameras.

The A6 starts at 21,990 rupees (~$323) for the 4GB + 32GB model and 22,990 rupees (~$338) for the 4GB + 64GB version, while the A6 Plus costs 25,990 rupees (~$382) for the single 4GB + 64GB variant. Like the Galaxy J6, these will also go on sale in India on May 22, and you can see from the table above the slight variations that justify the A series' slightly higher price tag.

Samsung says customers buying the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus through ICICI Bank credit cards or Paytm can qualify for a 3,000 rupee (~$40) cashback incentive. This is open to anyone who pays through Paytm Mall at any of the 25,000 retail outlets where the offer is enabled.
