But while Android phones have few real opponents on other platforms, internal competition is intense.
- The Moment Android app is finally here, after being available to iOS users for a long time.
- Moment is a company that makes lenses and video gear for smartphones.
- The Moment Android app is still missing some features that iOS users have.
Moment has made a name for itself as an innovative company developing lenses and video production gear for smartphones. As mobile devices continuously get more sophisticated camera hardware, we've gotten to the point where professional quality content can be created on your phone.
Although Moment has had gear for Android devices for a while now, the companion Moment camera app has only been available for iOS devices. However, today the company finally released the Moment Android app, which you can download for $1.99 from the Google Play Store.
The app is obviously configured to work best with Moment hardware, but it's a capable camera app on its own as well. Since it was created by camera professionals, the app has an emphasis on pro features like exposure, ISO, shutter speed, focus, and white balance. There are also quick toggles between RAW or JPEG file types, detailed EXIF data, and even a live histogram.
Unfortunately, not everything from the iOS app has made its way to Android. Choosing which lens to shoot from with a dual-lens setup, video mode with stabilization, and split focus are currently in the iOS app but not Android. At least not yet.
The product Moment most recently developed is a smartphone lens that will produce anamorphic widescreen content, complete with J. J. Abrams-style lens flares. Production for that Kickstarter-backed product is happening right now, with shipments likely beginning in August. We have a Google Pixel 2 XL unit on the way to Android Authority, so look forward to a full review in the late summer or early fall.
