Update, August 16, 2018, 06:15 AM ET: Leaked live photos of what is believed to be the Honor 8X have appeared on Chinese social media website Weibo (via Gadgets360). The phone features a similarly shaped notch to the handset recently seen on TENAA (see original coverage below), and appears to have a large display like the 7.12-inch screen it's reported to include.
The handset appears to have been snapped over somebody's shoulder, though how they got hold of the unannounced handset we don't know. Honor is expected to be at IFA next week with new product announcements, so the device may show up there.
Huawei, Honor's parent company, is tipped to launch the Mate 20 series there, and judging by the latest leaks, the Mate 20 may be the basis for the Honor 8X. Of those handsets, you can expect the Honor 8X to be the least costly. More soon.
Original coverage, August 16, 2018, 07:49 AM ET: Specs for a new Honor phone codenamed Honor ARE-AL00 have arrived on TENAA. The listing was spotted by TechAndroids (via
Pictures included with the listing suggest the size of the device will be kept manageable due to a small, Essential Phone-like notch. The pictures also show a centrally-placed rear fingerprint sensor.
The listing says the phone will be powered by a 4,900mAh battery — necessary for the huge display — and a 1.8GHz octa-core processor. It also says the phone will have 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
The phone will come with an 8MP front-facing camera and a 16MP and 2MP rear dual camera, according to what's on TENAA. It also appears set to come with Android 8.1 out of the box and will be available in blue, black, and red.
There is no price mentioned. However, should the phone indeed be the Honor 8X, it could cost similar to last year's Honor 7X, which was around $200 upon release.
Should this be the case, it would offer buyers a large-screen Honor experience for much less than the price of the Honor Note 10 and its 6.95-inch display.
