Oddly enough, Samsung didn't announce a new Gear VR headset alongside the Galaxy Note 9, so customers have been purchasing the 2017 model. But as some customers have recently found out, the Note 9 doesn't fit in the Gear VR. Thankfully, Samsung will mail users a free adapter to make the two devices compatible (via SamMobile).

If you head to the Gear VR's listing on Samsung's website, you will see a notice next to the buy button that states that the headset is "compatible with Galaxy S9 Plus, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8 and more." Samsung doesn't warn customers that the headset isn't initially compatible with the Galaxy Note 9 until you scroll down the page.
