If you live in those cities, you can sign up on T-Mobile's website to have a mobile hotspot — pre-loaded with an active T-Mobile SIM — sent to you. You can then connect your smartphone (or, we would imagine, any other Wi-Fi enabled device) to the hotspot to use T-Mobile's network without charge for 30 days, or until you use 30GB of data (whichever comes first). When the trial is over, you can return the hotspot device to any T-Mobile store, or you can simply pass the device to another friend who might want to check out the carrier's network. 

T-Mobile says this free trial will be offered in those cities for a "limited time" but didn't state how long the offer will last. There's also no indication on if more cities will be included in this trial offer.

The Uncarrier has been topping the three other major US wireless cellular companies in most network tests. A recent report from OpenSignal showed that T-Mobile was number one in terms of 4G download speed, 3G download speed, overall download speed, upload speed, and 3G latency. Only AT&T beat T-Mobile in 4G LTE  latency, and the study showed that T-Mobile and Verizon are the same when it comes to 4G availability.

T-Mobile also says it is getting ready for the upcoming upgrade to 5G. It stated earlier this year that it will have 5G networks ready in 30 cities by the end of 2018, and today, its CEO John Legere said it will offer nationwide 5G service by 2020.
