Samsung Galaxy Note 9 versus Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Quick look-11

  • Galaxy Note 8 users claim to have received a September update that includes AR Emoji and Super Slow Motion video.
  • These are two features that were previously exclusive to 2019 Samsung flagships.
  • Not all Galaxy Note 8 users have received the update, however.

Samsung is rolling out the September security patch for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and, according to user reports spotted by XDA Developers, the update comes with two new camera features: AR Emoji and Super Slow-Motion video.

Rumors over the weekend suggested that Samsung would roll out AR Emoji to Note 8 users. However, this is the first time we have seen evidence that Super Slow Motion could be rolled out too.

Both features were previously exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Note 9. AR Emoji lets users create animated emojis based on their own facial features. These can then be shared on social media or in messages.

In terms of Super Slow Motion, the Galaxy S9 and Note 9

can shoot 960 fps at 720p. While it is not clear whether this will also be the case with the Note 8 update, one user said the Super Slow Motion feature on his device shoots in 720p and looks the same as on the Galaxy S9.

Editor's Pick

Samsung has been proactive in bringing features from its newest devices to the Galaxy Note 8. As well as the camera updates, Galaxy Note 8 users have received video wallpapers and home screen landscape mode. As Samsung flagships get more expensive, it is certainly nice to know that Samsung is doing its bit to keep slightly older devices relevant.

Of course, the September update will not come to all Galaxy Note 8 users at the same time. While the Reddit post suggests at least some users in France have received it, other commenters from the U.K. and Northern Europe say they have not.
