For the past year or so, a common theme has been that many high end Snapdragon devices performed with better LTE speeds when compared to what the iPhone X was able to put through.
Today, speed test service SpeedSmart has released initial iPhone XS LTE speed tests compared to the 2017 iPhone X’s and the difference is quite significant. The new iPhone XS and XS Max have a new modem that support 4X4 MIMO antennas for a stronger more stable connection.

By contrast, the iPhone X only supports 2X2 MIMO and the iPhone XR is the only one that won’t get the faster modems. Initial tests showed the iPhone XS being tested on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon with more than three times the download speeds and noticeably faster upload speeds.
Aside from 4X4 MIMO, the iPhone XS also supports QAM and LAA, neither of which is supported by the iPhone X and both of which contribute to the faster LTE speeds that we’re seeing.
The iPhone XS and XS Max arrive to stores and doorsteps this Friday alongside the new Apple Watch Series 4. Have you pre-ordered one of the more premium iPhone XS’s or are you waiting for the entry-level iPhone XR?
