Google's rumored 2-in-1 Pixel Chromebook tablet hybrid in a leaked render.

  • Google's rumored 2-in-1 Pixelbook, codenamed 'Nocturne,' may have been spotted in leaked renders.
  • The images show off the tablet and keyboard in metallic blue, and clue us in to some of its potential features.
  • The Nocturne is one of two upcoming Pixelbooks we've heard about, the other being a 4K device codenamed 'Atlas.'

Images of Google's rumored 2-in-1 Chrome OS tablet and keyboard may have leaked online ahead of its anticipated October 9 launch. AboutChromebooks published the render yesterday, giving us a potential first glimpse of Google's first tablet product since the HTC-manufactured Nexus 9 (which ran Android) in 2014.

The hybrid, apparently codenamed 'Nocturne,' includes what looks like a metallic blue finish and a single USB Type-C port on the left side (apparently there will be another Type-C port on the other side). The tablet itself looks fairly standard — no fancy bezel-less design or suchlike — and the keyboard seems similarly straightforward.

class="ra-title">Google Pixelbook review: is it worth $999 now?
Google's previous Chromebook Pixels were pretty mixed bags. The original launched in 2013 for $1299 and its successor for $999. The hardware was definitely worth the cash, but the software wasn't. Chrome OS was a glorified …

As well as the image above, AboutChromebooks got a top-down look at the device, which apparently features a dual power button and fingerprint sensor, seen at the top left of the unit.

Other speculated Nocturne features include an 8th-gen Intel processor, SD card slot, and acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) — something which should reduce background noises when the tablet receives audio, like when you're on a voice or video call. It's expected that the 2-in-1 Pixelbook will work with other keyboards too.

The Nocturne is believed to be just one potentially upcoming Pixelbook 2 device, the other being the 4K display-wielding "Atlas." You can read our previous coverage of these Pixelbook 2 devices at the link.

Overall, it doesn't look like a particularly attention-grabbing piece of hardware — though Google's hardware rarely is. It's usually in their operation that the Mountain View company's products shine. We've no idea how much the Pixelbook 2-in-1 will cost, either, but the regular Pixelbook started at $999.

This all remains in rumor territory for now, but one Google announcement we're quite certain is on the horizon is a new line of Pixel smartphones. For more on those, check out our Google Pixel 3 rumor hub.
