Through its Thailand-focused Facebook page, Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi officially took the wraps off the rumored Redmi Note 6 Pro and its four cameras: two on the back, and two on the front.
Positioned as the successor to the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Redmi Note 6 Pro features a 20MP+2MP setup around front and a 12MP+5MP pairing around back. The two dual-camera setups make the Redmi Note 6 Pro the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature four cameras, though Huawei beat Xiaomi to the punch with the Mate 20 Lite.
As has quickly become customary in recent times, Xiaomi touts plenty of AI buzzwords for the Redmi Note 6 Pro's cameras. Things like "AI Dynamic Bokeh," "AI Portrait 2.0," and "AI Dual Front Camera," along with AI-assisted scene recognition, take advantage of the four cameras in various ways.

Apart from the cameras, however, not much separates the Redmi Note 6 Pro from its predecessor. The newer phone sports the same Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage. Even the displays are similar, though there is one big difference. Whereas the Redmi Note 5 Pro features an 18:9 display with no notch, the Redmi Note 6 Pro's 6.26-inch display features a notch and goes up to a 19:9 aspect ratio because of it. The notch also allows the newer phone to sport a slightly higher 2,280 x 1,080 display resolution. Seeing how the Redmi Note 5 Pro's display is also Full HD+ (2,160 x 1,080), those added pixels are barely noticeable.
At the end of the day, the Redmi Note 6 Pro is the definition of an iterative update. That is not an entirely bad thing since the Redmi Note 5 Pro was already pretty good and the four cameras on its successor will likely help sell the phone. It also helps that the Redmi Note 6 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo instead of Nougat.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is available in Thailand for 6,990 Thai baht (~$216) in black, blue, and rose gold. Xiaomi did not yet announce the phone for other markets.
