1.1.1.1 is a new app from Cloudflare. It lets you connect your device to Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS resolver. The service received big press earlier this year as a good alternative to Google's popular 8.8.8.8. It boasts a privacy-first premise and it's really easy to remember. You simply open the app, flip it on, and you should be connected to 1.1.1.1 instead of whatever it was you were using before. It's a set-it-and-forget-it type of app so you really only need to use it the one time. Some people have trouble with a few apps, but the experience worked fine for us. It's also entirely free.
Blizzard Esports is Blizzard's official esports news app for all of its games. That includes popular titles like Overwatch, StarCraft, StarCraft II, and even World of Warcraft. There isn't a whole lot to this app. It shows various news and event listings for each game individually if you want. It's also available in about a dozen languages. It has some early release jitters and a few gesture control mistakes here and there. However, it does what it says it does without too much of a real problem. Plus, it's free with advertising so it's hard to complain too much.
Connectpaper is a social app for wallpaper enthusiasts. That's a weird sentence, we know. People sign up for the app and share wallpapers with one another. You can invite people to join with invite codes or join on your own. From there, you can easily send and receive wallpapers from other people. It's not quite like Facebook or Twitter where you can follow people. It's just an easy point-to-point sharing system. The app is still in its earliest stages, but we really like the idea. It's a free app for now. The only thing we'd mention is that it's early and that means bugs. It ran okay during our testing.
easyUp is a new app for professionals. It's basically a video chat service. People can send in regular video check-ins when things aren't going to plan for quick communication. It also boasts features for regular video meetings for when everyone can't be in the same place. You can restrict the length of video check-ins and utilize the Story UI to keep everyone informed. It's a neat little thing, but most normal people won't have a need for it. Those who run small businesses should check it out, though.
ET Live is Entertainment Tonight's new official app. It offers a bunch of features, including celebrity news, live streamed news, and non-stop coverage of music, movies, and TV. There is also an archive of over four decades of Entertainment Tonight content available as well. The app's UI is serviceable and clean. You can find a bunch of stuff on the front page and the layout is adequate for this type of app. There are likely some bugs hidden around because it is a new app. However, we didn't run into any. It's not a bad news app for pop culture stuff.

Best Bluetooth headsets for when you're on the go
Heimdall Parental Control is what the app name says. You install the app on the child's device and control it from your device. You can do things like block new app installations, limit call duration, track your child's network activities, and even block undesired content like specific websites. Most of the features are free, but you need the premium version to get everything. We especially like that you can limit the use of apps already on the device. That helps keep your kids from playing Fortnite literally all night long. It seems to work pretty well.
Meme Stickers is a fun app for WhatsApp users. It's basically a collection of, well, meme stickers. You install the app and add them to your WhatsApp. You then use them in conversations at will. The app itself is riddled with advertising. However, considering how little you actually need the app, we kind of get it. That doesn't make them any less annoying, though. There are a total of 270 stickers across nine packs. The developer promises more in future updates. It's a nice little plugin for WhatsApp.
Migrate is a rare new root app. It's a back-up and restore application with similar funcationality to apps like Titanium Backup for MyBackup. You basically back-up your call logs, apps, app data, app permission settings, SMS messages, contacts, and other data and restore them on the new ROM when you flash it. It even remembers your default keyboard option, even if that is super easy to change in the Settings menu. It looks better than most of its competitors and worked fine during our testing. Titanium Backup is still more useful overall, but those who need simple back-ups may want to try this one. It is in beta, though, so don't be surprised if you hit a bug or two.
Rivet Beta is a new reading app for kids. It boasts over 1,500 books and a bunch of practice exercises for younger kids. It works best for kids in Kindergarten through second grade. Basically, the app shows your kids words and lets them select the corresponding images. The part is that the whole app is free at least for right now. Some other features include a rating system for books, tracking for reading practice and progression, and some organizational features as well. It's in beta and that means bugs. However, we expect this to be an excellent learning apps for kids in the future.
Simple Mobile Tools is a developer on Google Play with a bunch of very simple, basic apps. Some examples include a gallery app, a file manager, a drawing app, a calendar app, and many others. The developer added a pro version for all of them here recently. Each app costs only $0.99 and have a bunch of standard features. That includes offline support, optional syncing for many apps, simple Material Design UI, and more. This is a great collection of apps for people who enjoy a more minimalist approach.
