In 2018, Google committed to delivering its Material Design elements to literally everything it does. We saw overhauls of Android apps like Google Photos (and, shortly after, its web counterpart), Gmail, Google Drive, and more.
Now, it looks like the web versions of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites are next on the list for a Material Design refresh. Google announced that the G Suite versions of these apps will receive Material Design upgrades starting today. The rollout will be slow, with all G Suite users seeing the changes by the end of February.
Usually, when G Suite users get an upgrade, it's only a matter of time before general users see the
Google gave us a little taste of what the refresh will look like. Unlike with the total overhaul of Gmail, it doesn't look like too much will be different with the updates to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites:

- After the Material Design refresh
There are some subtle differences there, such as the switch to a new font, the rounding of corners, and the switch from a blue icon to a yellow icon to match the yellow branding of Google Slides. Overall though, it should look pretty familiar to most.
With this news, we can only assume everything Google has will be "Materialized" by the end of the year.
