The Realme 1 smartphone.

Realme has enjoyed a wildly successful first year on the market, as the Oppo sub-brand delivered several affordable smartphones. Releasing a phone is half the battle though, as firmware updates fix issues and bring new features. Fortunately, the company has now outlined its update schedule for this month.

Realme CEO Madhav Sheth posted an update timeline to Twitter (h/t: Gizmochina), revealing that all phones will receive the February 2019 security patch at the end of the month. Furthermore, the post shows that the Realme 1 will receive bootloader unlock functionality and a reboot option, while the Realme 2 Pro is set to gain fingerprint shutter capabilities.

It seems like we shouldn't expect Android Pie in these updates, then. But the Realme support account later revealed that all phones will receive the new version of Android in the first half of 2019. So even if we don't see Android Pie with these updates (and it looks like we won't), you should receive the update before the end of June.

The support account added that ColorOS 6 would roll out in the first half of the year, so we can likely expect the brand to bundle the Pie update with the new ColorOS version.

Either way, it looks like Realme owners might have to wait a few months to get Pie. By comparison, HMD Global has delivered Pie to loads of devices already. But the Finnish company still needs to deliver the update to the Nokia 1, Nokia 2, and Nokia 3 before it can claim that virtually its entire range is covered.
