Update, May 24, 2019 (8:59AM ET): A low-end Redmi device, purportedly the Redmi 7A, recently appeared on China's TENAA website. Now, Xiaomi has officially announced the handset.

In addition to most of the specifications found on the TENAA listing (seen in the original article below), Xiaomi has confirmed that the device offers a splash-resistant coating and a Snapdragon 439 chipset. Both are welcome additions to Xiaomi's cheapest phone range; the former should give the device a durability boost. The Snapdragon 439 chipset is also a solid upgrade, offering double the CPU cores compared to its predecessor's Helio A22 chipset.

The company also confirmed that the phone has a 4,000mAh battery, rather than a 3,900mAh pack as seen on the Chinese telecoms authority website. The biggest mystery is the price though, and we'll likely have to wait until May 28 and the Redmi K20 launch for this. Xiaomi's last few Redmi A devices have retailed for under $100, so fingers crossed for a similar bargain.

May 21, 2019 (2:35AM ET): The Redmi range is one of the most popular budget smartphone families in the world, and its cheapest devices usually offer a great price/performance ratio. Now, it looks like the Xiaomi sub-brand is readying another low-end device.

The new phone (model number M1903C3EC) might be the Redmi 7A, and it's popped up on China's TENAA website. A cursory glance at the spec sheet reveals its entry level trappings.

Xiaomi's latest device serves up a 1.4Ghz octa-core chipset, 2GB to 4GB of RAM, 16GB to 64GB of expandable storage, a 3,900mAh battery, and a 5.45-inch HD+ (1,440 x 720) display.

Other notable features include a solitary 13MP rear camera, 5MP selfie snapper, and a 3.5mm headphone port.
