A leaked render of what appears to be the Sony Xperia 2. Cash Karo

Today, via Cash Karo and notorious render-leaker @OnLeaks, we have a new set of renders for what appears to be the Sony Xperia 2. This is quite interesting considering the Sony Xperia 1 still isn't shipping in the United States.

It's not very often you see renders for a follow-up device when the original device isn't even out yet. But, here we are.

You can see the renders of the Sony Xperia 2 below in both images and a video. There doesn't appear to be too many significant design changes between the Xperia 1 and Xperia 2, but there are some differences:

The easiest-to-spot

difference with the Sony Xperia 2 is that the triple camera module on the rear is moved from the center of the device to the left-hand side. The top and bottom bezels also appear to be more even, unlike on the Xperia 1 which had an enormous forehead and a tiny chin.

Editor's Pick

You can't tell from just looking at the renders, but although the Xperia 2 keeps the same 21:9 aspect ratio of the Xperia 1, it's not the same size. In fact, the renders suggest the Xperia 2 will be smaller than the Xperia 1, with a screen size of just 6.1-inches as compared to the Xperia 1's 6.5-inch display.

Just like the Xperia 1, the Xperia 2 does not appear to have a headphone jack.

It's anyone's guess when we will see this device launch. Considering the Xperia 1 went up for pre-order in March and still hasn't started shipping, it would be very strange if Sony were to push this follow-up out anytime soon. However, Sony's mobile division isn't doing so hot right now, so maybe it will enact some bold new strategies in the meantime.

There's also the possibility that this isn't the Xperia 2 and instead something else. That doesn't seem likely considering the similarities between these renders and the official images of the Xperia 1, but anything's possible this early in the game. Let us know your theories in the comments.
