Realme and Flipkart teamed up for a survey last year, we were left scratching our heads after it found "most" millennials prefer a notch. The two companies are back for a new survey and, this time, it seems that most respondents want a notch-free screen.
Realme uses these surveys to promote a particular handset. Last time, that was the Realme 2, while this one advertises the Realme X heading to India later this month.
According to the new #RealVoiceOfIndia survey (picture below), 59 percent of people surveyed want a full-screen display without a notch. That would be a rather interesting turnaround from last year's survey, which stated that "most" users wanted a notch.
Last year's results also contradicted our own survey at the time, which found that 61 percent of users either didn't like the feature or wouldn't buy a phone with the cutout. Another 13 percent of respondents to our survey said they'd only buy a phone with a notch if it could be hidden via software. There might not be any significant overlap in terms of the demographics in both surveys, but it still made us sit up and take notice.
Realme and Flipkart's latest survey also found that 62 percent wanted a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera, 66 percent wanted a "super-fast charging battery," and 81 percent of respondents desired a "brilliant" rear camera.
Lining up with Realme X?

It's possible that consumer tastes have significantly changed since their last survey — especially as notch alternatives gain popularity. The preferences of their survey participants may also differ significantly from those of the Android Authority readership. Still, it's also possible that the poll questions are phrased in such a way that it favors the upcoming phone (e.g. choosing between a pop-up selfie camera and a traditional selfie setup).
Unfortunately, the two companies haven't revealed any details about the poll's methodology or sample size so we can't really comment on its validity (for what it's worth, more than 105,000 people reportedly participated in the first survey). More transparency would surely help assure users these surveys aren't inherently geared towards Realme's latest phone launches.
