Original article, May 14, 2019 (01:10 PM ET): If you purchased either the original Google Pixel or Pixel XL and it happened to be made before January 4, 2017, you may be getting some big money. A new report from The Verge states that Google has agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit brought against the company for hardware defects that were discovered in those phones, and owners could get up to $500 as a result.

You may remember that when the Google Pixel and Pixel XL were first released in late 2016, many users reported issues with the handsets' microphone. A Google support rep even stated that both phones might have a

href="https://www.androidauthority.com/google-pixel-microphone-issues-755556/">physical issue in one of their three microphones. Specifically, some units that shipped might have had a hairline crack in the solder of the microphone component.

In February 2018, a group of Pixel phone owners filed a class-action lawsuit against Google, claiming that the company shipped the phones while knowing they had hardware defects in their microphones.

Now, according to the report, Google has agreed to settle this case with payments made to those original Pixel and Pixel XL owners (the settlement itself still needs to be approved by the courts). Google may have to pay up to $7.25 million to settle this issue.

How you can get money from the Pixel and Pixel XL lawsuit settlement

Assuming the courts approve, this is how owners of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL will be paid:

  • If you owned a Pixel or Pixel XL made before January 4, 2017, discovered an issue with your microphone, and returned it only to get another phone with a defective microphone, you could be paid up to $500 by Google.
  • If you owned a Pixel or Pixel XL made before January 4, 2017, discovered an issue with your microphone, and did not return it, you could be paid up to $350.
  • If you owned a Pixel or Pixel XL made before January 4, 2017, discovered an issue with your microphone, but paid an insurance deductible, you could be paid up to the value of the device.
  • If you owned a Pixel or Pixel XL made before January 4, 2017, and found no issues with the microphone, you can still get some money from Google — up to $20.
