1. Antz
Z the worker ant (Woody Allen) immediately falls in love when he spies Bala (Sharon Stone), the colony's princess. Mesmerized, he wants to see her again, but the only way is to swap places with his soldier friend Weaver (Sylvester Stallone) and join the ant army. He reluctantly marches off into battle against the termites and emerges as the sole survivor. From there things only get more hectic. Whether this movie is better or worse than the very similar Disney Bug's Life is a matter of debate, but it's certainly worth watching with your kids nonetheless.
2. Astro Boy
Based on the Astro Boy manga, the story follows a disintegrated Tobi (Freddie Highmore) whose memories reside in a robotic replica created by his father, Dr. Tenma (Nicholas Cage). After discovering his origins, the robotic Tobi flees but is pursued by the henchmen of President Stone (Donald Sutherland). Tobi falls off Metro City during his escape, plummeting into a junkyard on the planet below. There he meets many new friends and learns a bit more about what he is, what his powers are, and where his destiny should take him.
Astro Boy is a lot of fun, especially for younger kids, and certainly one of the best kids movies on Hulu right now.
3. Beethoven
Who doesn't love Beethoven? This 90s classic is one of the best kids movies on Hulu, or really just one of the best kids movies period. While most of its sequels aren't very good (save for the second), it's certainly worth a watch. In the movie George Newton (Charles Grodin) doesn't want a new dog, but reluctantly agrees to take in a puppy thanks to mounting pressure from his wife and kids. As Beethoven grows into an adult dog, so does George's jealousy, as he feels neglected while the family pays more attention to their lovable St. Bernard.
The big conflict in this movie revolves around acceptance: Beethoven wants George's approval as a family member. The secondary conflict resides with veterinarian Dr. Herman Varnick, who secretly experiments on animals and wants Beethoven as his latest test subject.
4. Chicken Run
Ginger (Julia Sawalha) and the other chickens live in a concentration camp complete with barbed wire and patrolling dogs. It's really the Tweedy's farm, where chickens who don't produce eggs get slaughtered. Eventually, Mrs. Tweedy starts toying with the idea of selling chicken pies instead of eggs.
With their lives on the line, the chickens hatch a plan to escape before they end up the farmers oven.
5. Open Season
Boog (Martin Lawrence) the grizzly bear happily lives in the garage of park ranger Beth (Debra Messing)
The journey isn't a walk in the park, however, as both discover that not every forest animal is friendly. Even more, Elliot doesn't really know where he's going.
6. LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite
Lex Luthor (Clancy Brown) wants to become the president, but there are two obstacles in his way: His evil personality and Superman. To eradicate both and win the election, he needs the Joker (Christopher Corey Smith) to create Kryptonite and a gas that will make everyone love Luthor. Problem is, he needs to break the Joker out of Arkham Asylum after a recently foiled attempt to steal Bruce Wayne's Man of the Year award.
It's up to Batman (Troy Baker), Robin (Charlie Schlatter), and Superman (Travis Willingham) to save the day and stop the villainous team up from wreaking havoc.
7. Shrek
Shrek (Mike Myers) is a grumpy ogre who gets annoyed when all the fairytale creatures suddenly invade his swamp after being kicked out of the kingdom of Duloc by Lord Farquaad (Jon Lithgow), a man mean enough to torture the Gingerbread Man. Shrek embarks on a journey to confront Lord Farquaad and regain his quiet swamp.
Lord Farquaad wants to marry Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), but she's locked in a tower guarded by a dragon. Of course, he dares not fight a dragon, so he decides to find some suckers to do it for him by holding a tournament. That's when Shrek and his new buddy Donkey (Eddie Murphy) arrive.
8. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
Spirit (Matt Damon) is the leader of a Kiger Mustang herd who's captured and sent to a U.S. cavalry post during the Indian Wars. The Colonel (James Cromwell) wants Spirit to be his tamed mount, but the horse refuses. The Colonel tries to shoot Spirit, only to be thwarted by Little Creek (Daniel Studi), a captured Lakota Native American.
The two prisoners escape and flee to Little Creek's village, but the Colonel's cavalry isn't far behind.
9. The Prince of Egypt
Based on the life of Moses as written in the Book of Exodus, the Prince of Egypt begins with Yocheven placing her infant son in a basket and sending it down the river. The baby Moses (Val Kilmer) is found and raised by the Egyptian King Seti (Patrick Stewart) and Queen Tuya (Helen Mirren), who hide his true Hebrew origins.
After an accident with an Egyptian guard, Moses flees into the desert, and he takes up the life of a shepherd. Eventually a certain burning bush sets him on a quest, kicking of a journey that will change the world.
10. The Secret of NIMH
Don Bluth's directorial debut after parting with Disney in 1979, The Secret of NIMH is based on the book by Robert C. O'Brien about Mrs. Brisby (Elizabeth Hartman), a widowed field mouse, and her children. Her plan was to move the kids out of the field before Farmer Fitzgibbons (Tom Hatten) began plowing, but he started early.
Mrs. Brisby is forced to flee, meeting a group of rats who help hatch a plan to move her home.
