The Chinese company Oppo finally announced the Reno3 lineup at the domestic scene, while the Western world is still recovering from the feast of food and emotions and presents that is Christmas.
There were two phones on stage - the Reno3 Pro and the Reno3, both of which come with 5G connectivity out of the box. The mightier sibling has a Snapdragon 765G platform, while the vanilla Reno3 is the first smartphone to sport MediaTek’s new product called Dimensity 1000L.
Oppo Reno3 Pro
The Reno3 Pro has a 6.5” OLED panel with a 90 Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole design for the selfie camera. Oppo also boasts the device having a 180 Hz touch refresh rate for better gaming capabilities. The panel has 100% DCI-P3 and HDR10+ support.

The Reno3 Pro comes with so-called 5x hybrid zoom, which is 2x optical, the rest is done digitally. There are four cameras on the back - 8 MP ultra-wide-angle + 48 MP main + 2 MP Black & White (instead of Portrait) + 13 MP telephoto shooter. There is one camera on the front in the upper-left corner, inside the punch hole - a 32 MP snapper.

Since the Reno3 Pro is Oppo’s first 5G-ready smartphone, company executives talked a lot about the connectivity on stage during the announcement. In theory, it will support smart switching between 5G, 4G, and Wi-Fi to provide non-stop connectivity without ruining the battery.
Speaking about the power cell, it is 4,025 mAh with 30W VOOC 4.0. It goes from 0 to 50% in 20 minutes, and 0 to 70% in half an hour. Oppo is so confident the battery will take the beating of the 5G networks, it advertises the phone as “5G experience, 4G battery life”.

Oppo Reno3 Pro
Other specs of the phone include ColorOS 7, sound chambers for better stereo sound and mightier bass. The Reno3 Pro will be just 7.7 mm thin in its base (the camera is protruded) and will weigh a total of 171 grams.
Offered in four colors (White, Black, Starry Night Blue, Sunrise), the phone comes in three memory configurations - 8/128 GB for CNY3,999 ($570/€515), launching on December 31 for pre-order and 12/256 GB for CNY4,499 ($640/€580), available from January 10.

The third option is called Oppo Reno3 Pro Pantone 2020 and comes in Classic Blue, the color of 2020. It comes in a retail box where everything is white and blue, including the VOOC charger, the charging cable, and the predominantly white case. The price for this phone with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage is CNY4,199 ($600/€540).
Oppo Reno3
The vanilla variant of the family comes with the same 6.5” OLED screen, but the selfie camera is in a waterdrop notch. It remains 32 MP with all the AI features you might need. There is a significant overhaul on the back with the four shooters - this device has a 64 MP main cam, an 8 MP shooter with an ultra-wide-angle lens accompanies it, a black and white shooter and a portrait camera complement the setup.

The Mediatek Dimensity 1000L has four Cortex-A77 cores and four Cortex-A55 cores in the CU, while the GPU is Mali-G77. The chip manufacturer calls it “World’s fastest sub-6GHz 5G SoC” because it can reach up to 4.7 Gbps performance and supports the full range from 2G to 5G. Oppo promises the Reno3 will be up to 20% faster and more reliable than a platform with Cortex-A76 cores and will be even smarter - there is a custom APU 3.0, coupled with the chipset.

The Reno3 also comes with VOOC 4.0 quick charge for the 4,025 mAh battery. The fingerprint scanner is under the screen, and of course, the user interface is ColorOS 7. There are some software and hardware boosters, like GameBoost 2.0, for example, but that might take a toll on the battery life.
Available in White, Black, Starry Night Blue, Sunrise colors, Oppo is launching the Reno3 on December 31 for CNY3,399 ($485/€440) (that’s the 8/128 GB option) or CNY3,699 ($530/€475) for the 12/128 GB variant.
