We've heard plenty of Samsung Galaxy S11 leaks already, and one of the most consistent claims is that the 2020 flagship series will offer a 108MP sensor.
Now, frequent tipster Ice Universe has claimed on Twitter that the Galaxy S11 isn't using the same 108MP camera seen on the Xiaomi Mi Note 10. Instead, the tipster says it's a custom sensor — check out the tweet below.
The Galaxy S11+ uses a 1 / 1.3-inch 108MP Samsung exclusive custom sensor, which is superior in quality to ISOCELL Bright HMX and has a high cost.

Ice Universe notes that this supposed custom 108MP camera is the same size as the ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor seen on the Mi Note 10 and Mi Mix Alpha (1/1.33-inch). This suggests that we're looking at the same 0.8 micron pixel size, or the equivalent of 1.6 microns when shooting 27MP pixel-binned snaps.
The current ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor tops out at 6K/30fps video recording. Samsung is rumored to be offering 8K recording on the Galaxy S11 series, so it makes sense for a new 108MP sensor to offer support for 8K/30fps recording.
Hopefully the Galaxy S11's 108MP camera also delivers improved performance compared to Xiaomi's phone in less-than-perfect conditions. In his Mi Note 10 review, our own David Imel praised the phone for its great photos during the day. But David also felt that the 108MP camera delivered "incredibly washed out and soft" results in medium or low light.
