Introduction
Realme had a confidence boost after its first flagship - the X2 Pro - and now it's time for a proper sequel well equipped to battle not only flagships but flagship killers as well. Meet the Realme X50 Pro - one of the first phones kitted with the Snapdragon 865.
It took Realme a while to make a top-tier device, but the X2 Pro was indeed the answer to many users' requests. And now with the X50 Pro, the maker is entering the big league with a bang. The new flagship has a large AMOLED screen with HDR10+ and 90Hz refresh rate. Then it boasts the latest and greatest Snapdragon 865 chip complete with a 5G modem.
Moving on to the camera - it's the same as on the X2 Pro. The main setup has a 64MP primary, an 8MP shooter for both ultrawide and macro photos thanks to its advanced autofocus, then it has a 12MP zoom camera with 2x optical and 5x hybrid zoom, and finally, a 2MP depth sensor completes the whole thing.
But while the main camera did not receive any updates, the selfie shooter has seen a major overhaul. It is now a dual camera with a 32MP primary and an 8MP secondary for ultrawide shots. Also at the front, but out of sight, is the impressive under-display fingerprint reader we first saw in the X2 Pro and OnePlus 7T series.
The Realme X50 Pro is also the company's first smartphone to support the new 65W SuperDart Charge and it should fully charge your battery in half an hour!
Finally, the Realme X50 Pro is running on the newly developed Realme UI 1.0 based on Android 10. And it's also going after the Oxygen OS with the embraced pureness, clutter-free interface, and hidden powerful tools.

We would have appreciated some ingress-protection, but we guess the splash-resistant nano-coating is the best Realme could do right now.
So, here come our Realme X50 Pro first impressions and, spoiler alert, it's great news.
Design
The Realme X50 Pro is a really powerful smartphone with lots going on under its hood. But just like the rest of the flagship crop, it doesn't stray apart from the proven formula when it comes to its design. Behold the glass sandwich phone, again!
Well, Realme also realizes that and it sure tried to make the X50 Pro unique and recognizable with the paintjobs. The Rust Red and Moss Green not only look dazzling on press photos but in real life, too. Look at this rusty red X50 Pro we have here?
Realme talked a lot about the new hues. Instead of screaming and flashy colors, this time around the maker wanted "low-key" back and thus it designed these new low-saturation options. The Red Rust and Moss Green were inspired by the mysteries of the outer space, and while this is just a bunch of PR talk, we have to say the new colors work quite well for the X50 Pro.
The Gorilla Glass 5 on the back is heavily processed numerous times to achieve both the low-key light refraction and the matte texture and according to Realme the entire coating process takes 21 days. Well, whatever it took, we are impressed by the X50 Pro rear panel, that's for sure. It's a rare hue adds for a low-key design that's quite attractive.
The Realme X50 Pro display is one of its key features and it is a treat for sure. It's 6.44" AMOLED screen with an oval punch-hole at the top left corner for the dual-selfie camera. The screen has thin bezels, it is quite bright, it can be punchy with the right color mode, and even supports HDR10+.
But that large display also supports 90Hz refresh rate like the Realme X2 Pro. The new Realme UI is 90Hz optimized, and with the powerful Snapdragon 865 chip you will be able to enjoy all types of content in 90fps.
Again, just like on the X2 Pro, the optical fingerprint scanner under the display feels like one of the fastest we've tried, equal to the conventional scanners we used to have on the back of the phones. The sensor lights up with a white light the moment you touch it, and before you know it, you are on the homescreen.
And while we are still talking about the front - here is something that's also invisible to the naked eye - a second speaker. The earpiece now acts as a second speaker and thus the Realme X50 Pro features stereo speakers - the other one is at the bottom of the phone. We played a couple of songs and found the front speaker loudness on par with the dedicated loudspeaker though its bass is far inferior. In spite of the bass difference, the two speakers together sound quite loud, rich and clean.
Moving on to the back reveals the dazzling rusty red that depending on light can look either uniform or like a red aurora. And here is the quad-camera setup, which may have some impressive hardware on paper, but it doesn't make for a huge hump.
The camera setup on the Realme X50 Pro is the same as on the Realme X2 Pro.
The top camera highlighted by two yellow rings is the zoom snapper with a 12MP sensor, F/2.5 aperture, and 2x zoom.
In second place we see the primary camera with a 64MP Samsung sensor and a bright f/1.8 lens. It has a tetracell arrangement, which means four adjacent pixels are combined into one so you get a 16MP photo.
Third is the 8MP ultrawide shooter, which thanks to the PDAF, also can be used as a macro camera just like on the Realme X2 Pro.
And the fourth tiny eye is a 2MP B&W depth sensor. There is also a single-LED flash that's outside the camera deck.
The Realme X50 Pro has a metal frame between its glass panels, and it has this nice matte finish. Thanks to the frame design and shape, plus the rear matte glass, the Realme X50 Pro feels more secure than many of the glass phones we've met.
Handling the Realme X50 Pro was a real pleasure. It is a grippy phone, a beautiful one at that, plus it is quite pocket friendly thanks to its slim profile and normal-sized body despite the large screen.
Unfortunately, the X50 Pro is not waterproofed. It features p2i water-repellant nanocoating on its internals, which should help it survive a drop in water, but it's there as a safeguard in case of accidents involving water and you shouldn't rely on it as if it's a water-resistant phone.
Android 10 and Realme UI 1.0
The Realme X50 Pro runs on Android 10 skinned with the brand new Realme UI. The maker has promised us a new take on ColorOS that's made by Oppo and with the most recent C3 and X50 series it surely delivered.
The new launcher looks a lot like vanilla Android with no-nonsense homescreens, simplistic notification/toggles area, and easy to use task switcher. App drawer is available, too, and it is as clutter-free as one could hope for.
The new Realme UI supports different icon packs, so if you are not happy with the default one, you can opt for material style, pebbles, or you can even fully customize them by your liking.
There are a lot of powerful tools within the settings menu if you want a full control over your Android OS. Or you can leave everything as is and enjoy hassle-free Android experience optimized by Realme's AI algorithms and machine learning.
Similar to the recent Galaxies, the Realme UI offers a Smart Sidebar on the edge of the screen - you can customize the actions and app shortcuts that appear there.
The multimedia apps such as Gallery, Music, and Videos - are provided by Realme. There is also a redesigned File Manager, and even a Phone Manager app. And with that the non-Google app list is complete.

Gallery • Music • Videos • Phone Manager • File Manager
Finally, the Realme UI supports 90Hz and is displayed with 90fps - meaning it looks buttery smooth and blazing fast.
Performance
The Realme X50 Pro is the first smartphone we meet running on the new Snapdragon 865 chip. It also features Qualcomm's X55 modem that adds full-fledged 5G connectivity to the Realme X50 Pro!
So, the Snapdragon 865 has a new octa-core processor with a familiar core configuration - 1x2.84 GHz Kryo 585 Gold (Cortex-A77 derivative) & 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 585 Gold (Cortex-A77 derivative) & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 585 Silver (Cortex-A55 derivative).
The Adreno 650 is part of the Snapdragon 865 and should bring the gaming possibilities to another level.
The Snapdragon 865 chip supports LPDDR5 RAM and the Realme X50 Pro is available with 6, 8, or even 12GB of LPDDR5. The storage options are 128GB and 256GB, and the storage is of the UFS 3.0 kind.
Finally, the Snapdragon 865 is fabricated on TSMC's 7nm manufacturing process, same as the Snapdragon 855.
Realme has a new five-dimensional cooling system for the X50 Pro. It is comprised of a vapor chamber and multiple layers of solid graphite and it covers the entire chip area. The maker brags with the cooling efficiency, but we'll talk more when we start running them stress test.
Unfortunately, we had a pre-production unit of the Realme X50 Pro and benchmarking wasn't possible, but once we get our hands on the final unit, you bet we will run every test on it.
Battery
The Realme X50 Pro packs a 4,200 mAh battery. It is the first phone to support the new 65W SuperDart charge and the 65W charger is part of the retail bundle. Realme promises it will fully recharge the battery in 35 mins. We were eager to test it and we can confirm it fills 99% of its dead battery in 35 mins, while a full charge is achieved around the 38-39 min mark. Very impressive!
The Realme X50 Pro also supports all previous VOOC fast charging options, as well as USB-PD, so you can fast charge it with whatever you have lying around.
We can't wait to put the X50 Pro and its Snapdragon 865 chip through our battery life test and see what happens. Stay tuned!
Camera
One of the most interesting aspects of the Realme X50 Pro is its camera department. The phone has a total of six cameras - two at the front and four at the back. A single-LED flash is available for the rear setup, while the selfie shooters rely on the so-called screen flash which may end up about 1000 nits with the OLED beauty.
So, the main camera on the Realme X50 Pro has four snappers and they are the same as on the Realme X2 Pro.
The primary shooters uses Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 1/1.72" sensor with 0.8µm pixels, Quad-Bayer filter, and f/1.8 26mm lens. Phase-detect autofocus is available.
The second camera is an 8MP snapper with f/2.3 13mm lens for ultrawide photos. It also features phase-detect autofocus and because of it - this 8MP cam is also used for super macro snaps. Nice!
The Realme X50 Pro features a 12MP imager behind f/2.5 52mm lens for 2x zoomed photos. It can do 5X hybrid zoom, whatever that means, and also 20X digital zoom. Phase-detection AF is available here as well.
The fourth and final snapper is a 2MP depth sensor without color filter, which Realme calls portrait lens. It should help boost the contrast when assisting the main camera, and enhance retro effects if you decide to apply such.
The three active shooters all support AI Color - this was previously known as Dazzle Color or Chroma Boost. In addition to more saturated colors, it also applies HDR when necessary.
New night mode is available - Nightscape 3.0. It works like before - taking a couple of snaps with different exposure and stich them together. And it works on all three cameras - main, ultrawide, and zoom. But it has a new Tripod mode - if you leave the phone on a tripod it can shoot for as long as 50 seconds for some jaw-dropping shots. We can't wait to test this!
There are two selfie shooters at the front but none of them features autofocus. Still, the primary is a 32MP Sony IMX616 Quad-Bayer sensor with f/2.5 lens, while the secondary is an 8MP imager behind f/2.2 lens for 105° ultrawide selfies.
The camera app is familiar with a few tweaks here and there - there are less menus, which is good.
And now, here are some samples we shot for you. We will keep our in-depth judgements for our review, but things look beyond promising.
First, the 16MP shots from the main camera - the resolved detail seems plenty.
And here are some of those shot with AI color on.

Next, 8MP ultrawide pictures. There is automatic distortion correction applied, so there are no wrapped buildings.

Realme X50 Pro 8MP ultrawide photos
And again, some photos with AI color on.

And here are some macro shots taken with the ultrawide camera.

The 2x tele images look sharp and detailed. Colors seem great, too.

Realme X50 Pro 12MP 2x zoomed photos
The 5x zoom is hybrid, but it looks purely digital to us.

Realme X50 Pro 12MP 5x zoomed photos
And finally, let's zoom all the way to 20X. Don't get your hopes up.
We also took some low-light photos and they look pretty good. No Night Mode was involved in any of these.

Wrap-up
The Realme X50 Pro is shaping as a capable flagship killer and the unannounced OnePlus 8 seems like it's playing catchup already. It's clear Realme has put lots of efforts and the attention to detail is clear on all fronts. With the attractive specs sheet and aggressive pricing, we see bright future filled with a ton of sales.
Our hands-on has ended but our review is already in the works. So keep an eye on our homepage for when we are done putting the X50 Pro through its paces.
