your phone audio controls your phone audio controls

Microsoft has pushed a new update to its Your Phone app that lets users control audio playing on their smartphone from a Windows 10 PC.

In a blog post, the company announced the update has made its way to the Windows 10 Insider program, so users outside of the program will need to wait a bit before they can mess with it. The feature will roll out gradually, so not all members of the preview program will see the feature in their Your Phone app right away.

Outside of being in the preview program, users wishing to try the latest Your Phone update will need to have an Android phone running at least Android 7. Obviously, the Your Phone Companion app will need to be installed on the phone. The receiving PC will need the Your Phone app from the Microsoft Store, as well. The company noted that the audio control feature will be turned on by default as long as Your Phone Notifications permissions are granted.

The list of apps currently supported with the new feature is fairly extensive. Users will be able to use their PCs to control their Android devices audio with Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, Google Play Music, YouTube Music, Xiami Music, and Google Podcasts. Two notable omissions mentioned in the blog post are YouTube and Audible. The mention of those services implies that the company may add them at some point, though that's speculation on our part.

Another known issue with the latest Your Phone update is the way the back button functions. With some apps, it will support Previous Track and with others the button with cause the app to Rewind Track instead.
