The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G was the company's first 5G flagship when it was revealed well over a year ago, and it was the cheapest 5G phone at the time too.

However, Mi Mix 3 5G owners report that they're still stuck on Android Pie and MIUI 10, despite Xiaomi switching to MIUI 12 development (thanks to Android Authority reader Dan for the tip).

Several threads on the Mi Community Forum as well as on

href="https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/ga7917/xiaomi_clean_up_your_act_and_skip_to_miui_12_for/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reddit note the lack of updates. Furthermore, Xiaomi's MIUI 11 and MIUI 12 update schedules don't actually list the Mi Mix 3 5G.

The Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2S, and Mi Mix 2 are all listed to receive MIUI 12 though. The fact that the vanilla Mix 3 in particular is listed but not the 5G model is rather perplexing, as the 5G version only has a different modem and a slightly larger battery. So you'd think that whipping up an update for one would open the door for the other device to receive it too.

We've contacted Xiaomi to clarify the Mi Mix 3 5G update situation and will add their response if/when they get back to us. Nevertheless, it would be disappointing if the firm decides against updating a €599 (~$653) 5G phone.
