Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Fine Gold Edition. Caviar

  • A Russian luxury retailer is selling the Galaxy Note 9 Find Gold Edition for over $57,400.
  • The model has gold buttons as well as a custom rear panel made out of a kilogram of gold.
  • You could buy a Tesla Model 3 for the price of this phone, among other things.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is rather expensive, even for a flagship device, with a price of $1,000. But even that pales in comparison to the Galaxy Note 9 Fine Gold Edition from luxury phone brand Caviar.

The new model, spotted by SamMobile, ditches the standard glass back in favor of a custom panel made out of a kilogram (2.2 pounds) of gold. It seems like even the volume and power buttons have received gold substitutes.

The Galaxy Note 9 Fine Gold Edition has a listed price of 3.87 million rubles (~$57,470). You'd expect to get the 512GB model for over $57,400, but you'll actually need to pay an extra 20,000 rubles (~$298) for more storage. The website lists 256GB as the highest storage option, which seems more like a placeholder, as the Note 9 tops out at 512GB.

Additionally, the gold back means this phone most likely doesn't support wireless charging. It would be a shame if this phone does indeed lose out on functionality because a garish gold back was deemed more important. Then again, the target audience most likely doesn't care when they're dropping over $57,000 on a phone that'll be outdated in 12 months.

What could you buy instead?

Caviar also has a few 'cheaper' Galaxy Note 9 models, starting at 239,000 rubles (~$3,549) for a Black Onyx Edition. This model uses an onyx and gold-plated design, looking a little less tacky than the Fine Gold Edition.
