AT&T has canceled its Samsung Galaxy Fold pre-orders amid uncertainty over the foldable handset's release date (via Tom's Guide). AT&T began emailing customers to announce the pre-order cancelations yesterday after previously suggesting the Galaxy Fold would ship on June 13.
Samsung was originally set to release the Fold, its first folding display smartphone, on April 26. However, the company was forced to postpone the device on April 22 after reviewers discovered problems with its display.
Samsung hasn't announced a new release date yet, which has forced retailers to take action. Best Buy canceled its customer pre-orders on May 23, putting pressure on AT&T to also make a decision. T-Mobile, the only other confirmed U.S. Galaxy Fold carrier, didn't open pre-orders.
According to AT&T's pre-order cancellation email, any money already taken for the $1,980 smartphone will be refunded, and any cash held will be released. Additionally, AT&T will send a $100 promotional card to its pre-orders customers to thank them for their patience in the matter — those cards are set to arrive at their Galaxy Fold delivery address within the next 60 days.
When is the Galaxy Fold coming?
Samsung says it is still "enhancing" the Galaxy Fold and, earlier this week, a spokesperson for the company said a new release date would be announced, "in the coming weeks."
At the time of the Best Buy pre-order cancelation three weeks ago, Samsung also told us a decision about the release date would be made "in the coming weeks." Meanwhile, back in early May, Samsung Boss DJ Koh said the phone's release timeline would be revealed within in "a couple of days."
So, to answer the question posed in the subheading, we have no idea.
